I came to coaching in a very round about way. I suddenly found myself redundant from a job that really I wasn’t too bothered about, and promised myself that this time I’d do something different. Although I didn’t know what ‘different’ looked like. Funnily enough, it took a passing comment from my partner about this ‘being the fifth time that I was going to do something different’ that spurred me into action. So in 2002 I trained as a Co-Active Coach and then became only the second Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC) in Scotland in 2004.
Becoming a coach felt so natural to me not just because I believed myself to be a good listener and a creative problem solver, but because my life experiences had taught me I could choose to either enjoy or endure life. What I learnt over the past ten years is that change and life choices can only come about when you are ready to make them, and the greatest expert you can call upon is yourself. Training under the Co-Active Coaching model provided me the professional training, experience and support needed to combine my life experience with the discipline of coaching.
Some of the personal development tools I’ve learnt along the way and the professional development I am now interested in, I use as part of my coaching tool kit. Coaching for me is a natural, positive and powerful method of moving someone into the person they truly are but haven’t noticed yet, and into a fulfilled and balanced life that they desire.
